Edouard Du Puy (1770-1822)
Edouard Du Puy was a violinist, singer, conductor and composer. He was of Swiss descent and educated in Paris from 1786 (pupil of Chabran and Dussek). From 1799 to 1809 he was engaged at the Royal Theatre of Copenhagen, where this versatile and elegant artist went from one triumph to another in his capacities of singer and instrumentalist. In 1807 he played the title-rôle in the first Danish performance of Mozart's Don Juan. Before 1799 and from 1811 until his death he was engaged at the Opera of Stockholm. His works include Ballets, dramatic music, concertos, a number of compositions for celebrations at the Danish court and songs.
