Jørgen Jersild (1913-2004)

Jørgen Jersild was a composer and music pedagogue. He was pupil of Poul Schierbeck and studied with A. Roussel in Paris in 1936. In 1940 he got his M.A. degree at the University of Copenhagen. From 1939 to 43 he was connected with the Danish Radio. From 1944 he was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he became professor in 1953. From 1949 to 53 he was chairman of the Music Teachers' Association. In 1955 he became a teacher at the Edlund School of Music in Sweden. In addition to that he is author of several text books on ear-training and sight reading. His works include ballet, theatre music, works for chamber orchestra and chamber music, choral works, songs, music for children.
