About the Edition

Weyse's songs were first published in 1852, but this and later editions have long been sold out. The present edition by associate professor Sten Høgel has been created from a thorough text-critical ground and is published in clear modern notation directed towards singers, singing-teachers, accompanists – and enthusiasts of Weyse's music!

Volume I contains a total of 92 songs with original piano accompaniment, amongst others the known Morgensange for Børn (Morning Songs for Children) and Syv Aftensange (Seven Evening Songs) to texts by B.S. Ingemann, Ni Sange (Nine Songs) to texts by poets from the Danish Golden Age and Acht Gesänge (Eight Songs) to texts by Goethe and many others. Also included are arrangements of choral compositions for solo voice and piano, e.g. Natten er så stille (Quiet is the Night), and the famous Katteduet (Miau-Miau), which Weyse created along with Rossini.

Volume II  contains 49 songs from ballad operas and cantatas, amongst others from The Sleeping Draught (Sovedrikken), Ludlams Cave (Ludlams Hule) and The Festival at Kenilworth (Festen paa Kenilworth) as well as songs from the secular and religious cantatas.

In addition to articles about Weyse as a composer of songs and music dramatic works, the edition contains extensive information about the history of the individual songs, illustrations, reports from the ballad operas and much more.
