Sneak peek of new Edition·S project

2016-06-13
Edition·S has set the goal of reviving the historical tradition of contemporary composers writing music specifically for music school students in a new publication series called Educate·S.

Bach, Brahms and Bartok did just that in pieces where educational considerations and artistic ambition walked hand in hand and offered brand new musical discoveries and experiences to the young musicians.

We have asked 10 contemporary composers to each write two small pieces, for piano and violin respectively, aimed at use in music schools.

The composers contributing to this edition are Ib Nørholm, Fuzzy, Birgitte Alsted, Line Tjørnhøj, Morten Olsen, Eva Noer Kondrup, Simon Christensen, Nicolai Worsaae, Martin Stauning and Kasper Rofelt.

Educate·S will launch in August 2016, but already this Tuesday at 7pm a sneak peek premiere is taking place in the concert hall at Hvidovre Music School. At this concert students will perform Eva Noer Kondrup’s “Rødt ler”, “Søhest” and “Skarøs Sang”, and Ib Nørholm’s “Over strengene op 204, 4.”

The composers have been working in close dialogue with an editorial team and have received feedback from music school teachers during the process. The team is Mette Rasmussen (teaching piano at The Danish Suzuki Institution), Kuno Kjærbye (teaching violin at Hvidovre Music School), Anders Brødsgaard (composer and teacher at DKDM), and the initiator of the project Østen Mikal Ore (composer and guitar teacher at Kolding Music School).

The two collections consisting of solo pieces for violin and piano will be the first in a larger series of various instrumental pieces. In 2017 Edition·S will publish series for percussion and guitar.

With Educate·S we hope to encourage curious ears with a nuanced relationship to classical music and music in general.

The series is supported by Danish Composer’s Society, Danish Arts Foundation, The Sonning-Foundation and The Obel Family Foundation.
