Screenings of Borup-Jørgensen's 'Marin'
'Marin' was composed in the years 1963-1970, and premiered by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in 1970. The work is an extremely challenging and meticulously detailed symphonic poem - sometimes written out in no less than 55 separate voices.
The film was premiered in 2017 and is accompanied by a new re-recording of 'Marin' by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Søndergård.
The animation takes the audience to an underwater universe, inhabited by creatures: marenes. Many of the figures in the film are based on and inspired by Axel Borup-Jørgensen’s own drawings and figures. Rather than telling a specific story the animated version of 'Marin' offers a visual fantasy without a narrative, allowing the audience to explore the visuals as well as the music in their own way.
Also screened at the three events is the Axel Borup-Jørgensen documentary, 'AXEL', including interviews with composers Per Nørgård, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Ib Nørholm and Finn Savery.
