Bo Holten


Bo Holten is an editor, conductor and composer, who studied musicology at University of Copenhagen and bassoon at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. After he finished studying he became a music teacher and a music critic at the Danish newspaper Weekend Avisen. In 1979 he founded the vocal group Ars Nova and worked as the artistic director and conductor for the group until 1996. Since 1991 he has been a guest conductor for BBC Singers in London and has worked with prestigious choirs such as the Swedish Radio Choir and the Dutch Chamber Choir. His present vocal ensemble Musica Ficta was established in 1996. As an orchestra conductor he has worked with many different ensembles and orchestras in Scandinavia as well as abroad and has conducted more than 175 premieres of orchestra and choir works. As a composer he has written more than 100 works amongst those are operas, symphonies, solo concerts, sang cycluses, a capella choir works and various film music. Especially his works for choir - with or without instruments - inhabit a prominent place in his work production. Holten has had an important role in Danish music life as a member of the Danish Music Council (1979-83) and as the chairman of the Danish Arts Funding (1989-92).
