Dietrich Buxtehude

(1637-1707)

Dietrich Buxtehude was one of the most famous composers of the Baroque era. Great composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach (who was his student in 1705) and Georg Friedrich Händel were amongst Buxtehude's admirers and were inspired by his music. Like his father, he worked as an organist at Helsingør's Maria Church and later at the Maria Church in Lübeck, Germany. Whilst there he arranged great church concerts around Christmas time which attracted audiences from great distances.
