Finn Høffding

(1899-1997)

Finn Høffding was a significant Danish composer. He was pupil of Kr. Sandby, Knud Jeppesen, and Jos. Marx. From 1931 he was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, in 1949 he became professor and director in 1954 - a position he held for only one year. He was the co-founder of the school of folk music of Copenhagen in 1932. From 1929 to 39 he was chairman of The Music Teachers' Association, and became honorary member of same in 1949. In addition to that he is author of textbooks on harmony and of solfege, and of a piano method (with Birgitta Nordenfelt). His works include orchestral works, chamber music, choral compositions, and songs.
