Mogens Christensen graduated from the Jutland Academy of Music, Aarhus in 1983 with a diploma in musical theory and history as well as an educational degree. Moreover, in 1988 he received a diploma in composition with - among others - Per Nørgård, Poul Ruders, Hans Abrahamsen and Karl Aage Rasmussen. He also studied with Ib Nørholm. Mogens Christensen has written music for large ensembles as well as chamber orchestras apart from solo works and vocal music. Very often his musical approach is literary. In his early works the lyrics were often the instigator, whereas the source of inspiration for his later instrumental compositions were often legends and other sources of an unreal nature. Mogens Christensen's music has been performed in radio broadcasts as well as concerts in all Scandinavian countries at e.g. the UNM and NUMUS festivals, and between 1998 and 2000 he was "composer in residence" of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Besides, he has worked as a teacher at the academies of music in Aarhus, Copenhagen, Aalborg and Esbjerg.
