Svend Westergaard was a composer and music pedagogue. After studying with Hakon Andersen, and with Goffredo Petrassi in Rome, he became a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he was appointed professor in 1965 and principal 1967-71. His works include concerti, orchestral and chamber music, incidental music to Sophocles' Antigone, choral works, and a manual of harmony.
