Wayne Siegel

(1953-)

Wayne Siegel is an American-born composer living in Denmark. He came to Denmark in 1974 where he completed his Bachelor of Arts at Aarhus University, where he studied with Per Nørgård and later a degree in composition from The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.

In 1978 he received a three-year working grant from the Danish Arts Council. He worked as a freelance composer for some years, before he got the job as administrative director of the West Jutland Symphony Orchestra.

In 1986 he was offered the position as director of the newly founded national electronic music centre (DIEM), which became a part of the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus in 2003 and Wayne was appointed professor of electronic music.

Wayne's music is influenced by minimaslim, as well as folk, blues and rock music. His works have been commissioned by the Kronos Quartet, Evelyn Glennie, Harry Sparnaay, Singcircle, and the Safri Duo.
