Lysistrate is based on Aristophanes story, but this is not a comedy. Far from. The Icelandic-German composer Steingrimur Rohloff invited Peter Laugesen, one of Denmark's greatest living poets to write lyrics about this ancient comedy. A beautiful, strong-willed and sensual woman trying to stop a cruel war. She tries to encourage her sisters’ rebellion by denying men sex. But in vain. The texts elucidate the issues of war and sexuality with tragic optics.
At the premiere in 2016 emerged a highly actual opera about present-day tragedies of war, migration and oppression, similar to how the world appeared 2,400 years ago.
