Adrianna Kubica-Cypek wins Carl Prisen 2025

Adrianna Kubica-Cypek receives Carl Prisen 2025 for her choral work Printemps.

Printemps touches on the sense of space and abstract structures whose shapes evoke the affirmation of spring in all dimensions — the light, warmth, vitality returning after winter and the chaos that gives rise to it.

The jury of Carl Prisen stated that Adrianna Kubica-Cypek "has created a musical celebration of spring – a piece that captures the light  brightness and the arrival of warmth. Unique harmonies merge into a richly sensory and atmospheric experience, where the music almost feels tangible. With a sensuous approach, the composer unfolds a vivid soundscape – where colors become tones and sounds awaken emotions. A work that is not just heard, but felt."

Often starting from the curiosity about a minimum of material - like a single synaesthetic sensation - Adrianna Kubica-Cypek uses techniques such as controlled aleatorism and repetitiveness to extract a maximum of musical potential in her compositions.

Printemps was commissioned and premiered by the Danish National Vocal Ensemble in spring 2024.

Printemps is part of Kubica-Cypek's choral cycle Saisons, composed for 16 voices a cappella, exploring spaces and structures whose forms evoke memories of the various times of the year.

Listen to one of the other pieces in the Saisons cycle, L'été, performed by the Danish National Vocal Ensemble in 2021, conducted by Marcus Creed.
