ANMF Becomes KLANG

The annual festival Athelas New Music Festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and has just announced that it is changing name.

Athelas New Music Festival was originally founded in 2008 as a way of promoting the Danish ensemble Athelas Sinfonietta and has since then grown and is now an eight day festival with up to 18 events. Last year the festival announced that it would engage in a new artistic management with the two Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composers Christian Winther Christensen and Rune Glerup as Artistic Directors.

This morning the festival announced that it was changing name to KLANG – Copenhagen Avantgarde Music Festival and is going to focus on avantgarde music and art of the future.

“At KLANG the free form of avantgarde is going to be a treat for both the classical connoisseurs as well as curious culture lovers. The programme presents brand new premieres, Danish premieres, significant international names and experimenting initiatives across art forms. The electronic sound gets a space for playfulness, classical concert forms are challenged and the music lives in mechanics and body, words and codes, video and everyday objects. At KLANG the “music of tomorrow” is performed.” Press release, March 15, 2013

The full programme will be released on the new website www.klang.dk, on April 15, 2013.
