Bára Gísladóttir nominated for Icelandic Music Awards

Bára Gísladóttir has received two nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards 2024.

Bára Gísladóttir is nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards 2024 in two different categories: COR is nominated as work of the year and SILVA as album of the year.

The orchestral work COR was premiered in April last year by the WDR Symphony Orchestra at the German festival, Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik.

COR combines a variety of timbral textures, but the darkness dominates throughout, because of the rather unusual instrumentation of the work; the only strings on stage are seven amplified double basses, and the setup for the four percussionists is immense. The core of COR is an intense double bass and percussion solo with the musicians improvising based on an image in the score.

SILVA is a work for processed double bass built on the idea of a downward growing forest, living its own secret life of underground raves and meditative cohesiveness. The album was released at Sono Luminus in January 2023 and received great reviews.

The Icelandic Music Awards will be presented in Harpa on March 12 and live on RÚV.
