Edition·S published Bára Gísladóttir's orchestra work 'VAPE' back in 2017, and we are very excited to announce that we will be publishing a number of works by the young composer in the future.

The works of Bára Gísladóttir are characterised by a deep and self-reflective calm, at times producing an almost meditative state in the music. In her pieces, time is as likely to move in circles as it is moving forwards towards a distinct goal.

Whether writing for acoustic instruments or electronics, Gísladóttir is especially concerned with the rich details of sounds. Thus, overtones, liminal registers and multiphonics play an essential part in her works, creating an atmosphere of slowly progressing mystery.

World premiere at Klang Festival
Gísladóttir is represented at the upcoming Klang Festival, when Athelas Sinfonietta and Esbjerg Ensemble join forces in the festival anniversary concert in Den Sorte Diamant on Tuesday 4 June 20:00. The ensembles will premiere Gísladóttir's new work 'Music to accompany your sweet splatter dreams'. The work consists of three movements with the rather graphic titles:
i. rushing down a steep steadily shrinking footpath on a 1995 green Nissan King Cab
ii. extreme long shot: blood spatters on Snowy Mountain
iii. the plastic wrapped corpse of your mother in burgundy crocodile leather wooden heeled cowboy boots

Within the next couple of months it will furthermore be possible to experience works by Bára Gísladóttir in York, UK; Skálholt, Iceland; at Young Nordic Music Days in Piteå, Sweden; in Aarhus, Denmark and at Warsaw Autumn in Poland.
