Bára Gísladóttir writes solo piece for the recipient of the Sonning Music Prize 2024

The Léonie Sonning Music Foundation has recently announced that the Franco-Swiss flautist Emmanuel Pahud will receive Denmark's largest and most prestigious music award, the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2024.

This year's recipient will be celebrated with a mini-festival, culminating in an award concert in Odense Concert House on 30 May 2024. As part of the celebration, the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation has commissioned a new work for solo flute by Bára Gísladóttir, which Emmanuel Pahud will premiere at the award concert.

The programme for the award concert also includes the premiere of Gísladóttir's work Ms. Ephemeris Abyss, which was originally written for the flute ensemble VIIbra. The work will be arranged for the occasion in a special version involving a large flute choir.

The flute occupies a special place in Gísladóttir's oeuvre in solo pieces and various chamber music constellations. Among other things, the work VÍDDIR for nine flutes, percussion trio, double bass and electric bass has been praised in both live performance and album recording by reviewers at home and abroad.
