Danish Songs in London

On January 25, works by Nanna Liebmann, Nancy Dalberg, Margaret Hamerik, Hilda Sehested, and Tekla Griebel Wandall brings sound to the Dulwich Picture Gallery's acclaimed exhibition, Anna Ancher: Painting Light.

The Danish Soprano, Else Torp and the British pianist, Miles Lallemant will perform a special recital of works by Nanna Liebmann, Nancy Dalberg, Margaret Hamerik, Hilda Sehested, and Tekla Griebel Wandall in London.

On January 25 at Dulwich Picture Gallery, this concert brings sound to the museum's acclaimed exhibition, Anna Ancher: Painting Light, showcasing a rich repertoire created largely by women who were contemporaries of Ancher and the Danish Skagen Painters.

Liebmann and Ancher were both closely involved in the influential Women’s Exhibition of 1895, reflecting the shared artistic networks of the time.

The songs are performed in Danish, German, and English, and interwoven stories, adapted for an English-speaking audience, connect the music to the cultural world of Anna Ancher.

The songs by Liebmann, Dalberg, Hamerik and Griebel as well as the piano pieces by Sehested are all published through the DCM project.
