In May 2012 the annual festival for contemporary music SPOR kicks off its 8th festival. This year Edition·S joins the festival in a partnership.
SPOR festival is held in Aarhus, Denmark, for the contemporary music and sound art scene. SPOR started in 2005 under the leadership of Thomas Agerfeld Olsen with the composer Niels Rønsholdt as curator. In June 2007, Anne Marqvardsen and Anna Berit Asp Christensen took over as the directors of the festival.
The reason why Aarhus is the host of SPOR festival is that Aarhus has a long tradition of being a forward looking and visionary platform for contemporary music and sound art. This position was established by the annual NUMUS festival, which was founded and realised by composer Karl Aage Rasmussen over a period of 25 years (1978-2002).
In addition to the festival, SPOR also initiates other activities, such as New Music Easter School – a composition school for children, SPORLab – a communication laboratory focusing on innovative communication of contemporary music, and SPORSatelite – a 24-hour event that exposes part of the festival in other cities and countries.
The theme of this year’s festival is SPEAK UP and Edition·S represents two composers on the programme; Niels Rønsholdt and Simon Christensen.
Edition·S will tweet regularly from now on and until this year’s festival ends, so follow Edition·S on Twitter and get the latest updates!
