Together with Dacapo Records and Naxos Denmark, we will present the musical cultural heritage through a selection of scores and album releases.
Don’t miss our contribution to the stage programme on Sunday 15 March at 13:30: The Women, the Music, and the Forgotten Legacy
What did it sound like when women composed music at a time when men set the agenda? Join us on a journey back to the manor landscapes of Funen at the end of the 19th century, where Hilda Sehested and Nancy Dalberg took their first steps fighting their way into a male-dominated world. Here they composed substantial music that both challenged the norms of their time and helped pave the way for future generations of women composers. Their works were often judged according to gender rather than artistic value—something clearly expressed in reviews of the period.
Radio host Rie Koch explores their lives and the era they lived in, while musicians from Ensemble MidtVest will perform Hilda Sehested’s Four Fantasy Pieces for Flute and Piano and Nancy Dalberg’s Two Fantasy Pieces for Violin and Piano.
The performers are Charlotte Norholt (flute), Martin Qvist Hansen (piano), and Nicolas Dautricourt (violin).
