New folk music from Dreamers’ Circus published by Edition·S

Edition·S is pleased to present Handed On, a beautiful new sheet music release with melodies written by the award-winning folk music trio Dreamers’ Circus.

Nikolaj Busk, Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen and Ale Carr formed the trio Dreamers’ Circus in 2009, and since then they have performed worldwide with their music, which often crosses musical boundaries.

With Handed On, they return to their roots in folk music and they explain: “We recognise we're part of an unbroken line of people who have shaped and shared their music across borders in time and space. In an attempt of contributing to the tradition and giving something back, we've written and compiled 58 tunes in a more traditional style, ranging from simple beginner tunes to more advanced. Our dream is that these tunes can open doors to this style of music, serving as a source of inspiration to delve further into the tradition and help renew it.”

The melodies in the book are divided into four levels of difficulty and can be played by anyone from beginners to professionals. Thus, Handed On is well suited for music education at different grades and levels. The book is richly illustrated and the melodies are accompanied by short texts with explanations and good advice from Dreamers’ Circus.

Handed On is published by Edition·S as a sub-edition in line with, among other things, the our popular releases of The Danish String Quartet’s Wood Works and the sheet music series with the Danish National Girls’ Choir’s many choral arrangements. The publication also complements the ambitious catalogue of music aimed specifically at music school students and young musicians, Educate·S.

Dreamers’ Circus has recorded all 58 melodies themselves as music videos that can be used as a tool in both teaching and practicing the new melodies. At the same time, the videos are a fantastic opportunity to play along with the three professional musicians on the screen. The publication of Handed On and the accompanying videos will be celebrated on Saturday 10 September in Den Sorte Diamant with a festive and large-scale concert in Dronningesalen. The trio have invited over 50 talented guests to join them on stage as music from Handed On is performed live for the first time. Among others, Dreamers’ Circus has invited the Zapolski Strings, Poul Lendal, the folk music band Vesselil, Mads Hansen’s Kapel as well as children and young people from Roskilde Music School.
