This week we have returned to reality after a nice long Christmas holiday. We can no longer use the excuse of being in ”holiday mode”. It’s January, it’s cold and it’s hard work.
But it also means that we say hello to a brand new year with lots of performances and exciting news. The second edition of the Edition·S – music¬sound¬art newsletter has just been sent out with carefully selected scores of the month, latest news and upcoming performances. This month’s E·xclusive revealed a Spotify playlist full of music that has inspired some of our composers in their work as artists.
When listening to our playlist you can learn that Simon Christensen has been inspired by artists as different as Matmos and Giulio Caccini, Jexper Holmen loves the beauty of Portishead and Aphex Twin, Niels Rønsholdt recommends Major Lazer and Gudrun Gut for a good time, Line Tjørnhøj rocks to Iggy Pop and Antony and the Johnsons, and Jimi Hendrix inspired Nicolai Worsaae to write the ending of his work Emphatische Ellipse.
We think the playlist is quite good, so check out the list here and listen to some of the music that has inspired our composers and their works. We'll continue to update the playlist regularly.
The newsletter also revealed some exciting news about Edition·S being on the VinterJazz programme this year as part of the official ILK Music line-up. Simon Christensen has composed a new work especially for this concert, which he will perform himself together with the vocal duo LIFT. We can’t wait for February 2!
Check out the Facebook event here.
This week you could also learn more about our composer Rued Langgaard and the great work the Rued Langgaard Edition is doing. Andrew Mellor has written an inspiring article about Langgaard and his music in the latest edition of Choir and Organ magazine. Read the article here.
This week kicked off this season’s many performances. Simon Steen-Andersen started his tour around Austria with Ensemble Nadar and tomorrow Lars Hegaard’s work Figures for Wood and Metal will be performed by ensemble Snow Mask in Aalborg, Denmark. Check out our performance calendar for more performances and details.
Have a nice weekend!
