Flashback Friday January 18

This week has been filled with Edition·S – music¬sound¬art superstar Simon Steen-Andersen. Yesterday he did a rare performance in Denmark with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Canadian conductor Julian Kuerti.

The Chinese gu-zheng player Liu Le was flown in especially for this concert as Simon Steen-Andersen’s work Ouvertures was on the programme and is composed for this peculiar instrument. It was an extraordinary performance indeed – and an extraordinary evening. Besides Simon’s work, the American composer Aron Copland’s Symphony no. 3 – aka “the great American symphony” – was also performed by the kind Aarhus people, as well as John Adams’ work about the Chinese Chairman Mao. Of course Simon’s work was the best – or so our sources tell us!

“THAT was big! :-) Was sitting in a big bubble, which was entirely filled with one coherent blanket of notes. A particularly beautiful piece of music.” Says one of Simon’s Facebook fans.

Another puts it simpler: “Thanks for a great experience!”

Simon does have a lot of fans and is one of the rare composers who get standing ovations after a performance.

Another couple of superstars are Klejs & Rønsholdt who at this particular moment are in London-town. Their grand work Breathless Moment – an iPhone / iPad app opera – has finally come to life in the sense of a prototype that hopefully soon will be shown to audiences all over. The work is realised with help from partners such as tech-house CAVI, Danish Broadcasting Corporation and Royal Opera House in London. Very exciting stuff!

Soon, 3 other superstars will do a special performance together with Odense Symphony Orchestra. We’re of course talking about the PLIIIINGGG boys! But more about that later…

This Flashback Friday can conclude that Edition·S is a publishing house full of superstars :-)

Please keep updated about these superstars’ whereabouts in our Performance Calendar and the weekly Flashback Friday.

Have a nice (freaking cold & snowy) weekend!
