Flashback Friday March 15

This week has been full of great news and kind words! First of all we are very proud to announce that the British newspaper The Times published an article about Danish music and in that context interviewed two of our composers! Niels Rønsholdt from the artist duo Klejs & Rønsholdt (who are featured with a great photo by the talented Lars Svankjær) and the Berlin-based and ever-so-busy Simon Steen-Andersen both shared their view of the Danish music scene. The article was written in the connection to the concert New From The North at Barbican in London. Unfortunately there were not any Edition·S composers on the programme, but we made our mark on the article and received these kind words from the author Igor Toronyi-Lalic:

“That Denmark is home to one of the world’s most innovative publishing houses, Edition S, which specialises in work by composers whose demands go beyond the traditional five-stave score, is also vital.”

In addition to that Klejs & Rønsholdt’s app-opera Breathless Moment was singled out as being “the boldest musical initiative”. Speaking of which, Kunsten.nu also published an interview with the gifted duo here.

Rønsholdt and Steen-Andersen were not the only ones being interviewed this week. An intern at SNYK interviewed the DIY composer Lars Kynde and the result was an article full of photos and sound bits explaining his work Elephant Heart. Read it here.

The young composer Nicolai Worsaae was also in the hands of SNYK when SNYKradio interviewed him about his work Wesenheit ab Wesenheit. Nicolai was inspired by “isolation poems” written by the German spy Jörg Meyer, who was arrested in Denmark in 1978. Very exciting story and beautifully told by Jan Stricker from SNYKradio. Worth a listen!

FIGURA Ensemble performs Wesenheit ab Wesenheit tonight at the two-day festival FIGURA Festspiele at Literaturhaus in Copenhagen. Check out the Facebook event.

Yesterday SPOR festival announced this year’s programme and three Edition·S composers are on it! Simon Steen-Andersen, Niels Rønsholdt and Christian Winther Christensen all have premieres of some sort: it’s the first time that Black Box Music is going to be performed in Denmark, it’s the first time Me Quitte is going to be performed in full length, and it’s the first time Six Preludes is going to be performed… full stop!

We are very exited to be a part of such an interesting festival! See the programme here.

This morning Athelas New Music Festival announced that it has changed name to KLANG – Copenhagen Avantgarde Music Festival. The festival announced last year that it would engage in a new artistic management with the two (Edition·S!!) composers Rune Glerup and Christian Winther Christensen as artistic directors, and now it has a new name. As Bob Dylan would put it: “Times are a changin’!”

We look forward to experiencing the new, improved festival and all the performances at KLANG 2013 from May 25 to June 1, 2013.

Last, but not least we would like to share this photo with you of the great Ensemble Intercontemporain performing Simon Steen-Andersen’s Praesens at PULSAR Festival last Friday.

Have a nice weekend! And hopefully see you at FIGURA Festspiele! Otherwise you have lots of catching up to do with all that publicity our composers get at the moment.
