Flashback Friday May 31

This week has been in the name of KLANG – the newly restructured avantgarde music festival for ”classical connoisseurs” and ”curious culture lovers”. Edition·S – music¬sound¬art was well represented in the programme, so here’s a short recap of what we experienced:

Saturday night we attended the opening concert and reception at Republique in Copenhagen. As always the Athelas Sinfonietta opened the festival with a well-planned programme. It was easy to tell that two composers were behind this – the concert had a really nice flow to it and built up from the silent Graduale by Simon Løffler (sung by the magnificent Helene Lang) to the powerful Art of Metal III by the French composer Yann Robin.

After a short break Lars Kynde performed the first part of his work Wandelende Tak, Elephant Heart on his artistic DIY composition machine. See also Rudiger Meyer's photos on Facebook.

Sunday afternoon our very own Rudiger Meyer attended AND participated in Jexper Holmen and Frode Andersen’s new work Alnitak for A LOT of music boxes and accordions performed by local amateur musicians.

Monday evening was the night of the prestigious ensemble recherche who performed Simon Steen-Andersen and premiered Nicolai Worsaae’s Epilogus – a concert that got 4 out of 6 hearts in the Danish newspaper Politiken.

Thursday evening Jeppe Just Instituttet took over the old tavern Café Hermod at Østerbro with his homebuilt instruments and entertainer act. The local visitors sure got a new experience! And so did we.

It was a fun and entertaining performance with flashing tivoli lights, a bike wheel and an umbrella of kitchen utensils mixed with melodic compositions and humour.

Tonight KLANG festival introduces an evening of Stockhausen and tomorrow is the final concert with Athelas Sinfonietta celebrating Søren Kierkegaard’s 200th birthday.

Meanwhile most of Edition·S has been enjoying KLANG, director Becky Dawson has attended the Classical:NEXT event in Vienna. We can’t wait to hear what she has been experiencing there.

Rudiger Meyer has also been active on the social media where he found this interesting article! Should we really cut out publishers?? We certainly don't think so.

Enjoy the sunny weather and see you next week!
