Heather Roche is a (bass) clarinetist currently on a residency in Copenhagen as part of the DIVA (Danish International Visiting Artists) program. Born in Canada, Heather completed a PhD on composer/performer relationships at the University of Huddersfield and is an active performer on the international new music scene. She is now based in Cologne where she is also a member of the ensemble hand werk.
Heather Roche
Heather has a fantastic blog where she writes on topics such as extended clarinet techniques, collaboration & composition and her use of the iPad as a replacement for printed sheet music. Since an increasing number of composers have begun to turn to the iPad as a solution for solving page turning problems (our own Simon Steen-Andersen and Christian Winther Christensen, amongst others) Edition·S has invited Heather to present a workshop on her experiences with using the iPad from a performer perspective. She has already written a fine blog post on how she prepares sheet music for use on the iPad and will expand on this and her experiences with using the iPad both as a solo performer and as part of the ensemble hand werk (in which 4 of the 6 members are now reading from tablets).
There is much to be gained from this exciting new field and if you are curious about how to make your music more ‘tablet friendly’ or compose with the possibilities it opens up in mind, as well as how it can revolutionize your approach to rehearsals, be sure to join us at the Edition·S office on Thursday afternoon, 12 June.
The workshop is free and open to all. We would however appreciate you letting us know that you’ll be taking part by sending an email to marlene@edition-s.dk.
