Next week the annual Carl Nielsen competition sets off in Odense, Denmark, during which violinists of all nationalities under the age of 30 will be contesting.
In the second round the competitors will be performing renowned composer Ib Nørholm’s piece Ménage à trois, composed specially for the competition. Menage à trois is a humoristic observation of a musician, his violin and the bow, for unaccompanied violin.
There is a great prize in store for the winner, who is offered world-wide management for two years by Copenhagen Artists A/S.
Furthermore the winner will be performing at several concerts including a recital at Charlottenborg during Copenhagen Summer Festival on Thursday August 9, 2012 and with Odense Symphony Orchestra at the Opening Concert of the 5th International Carl Nielsen Clarinet Competition on Thursday May 30, 2013.
The Carl Nielsen competition changes each year between violin, clarinet, flute and organ and is arranged by Odense Symphony Orchestra.
The competition runs from May 30 to June 9.
Ib Nørholm’s Menage à trois will be played on June 3 and 4, 10 am to 6 pm both days, at the Pro Musica Hall, Odense Concert Hall.
