Interviews

Interview · Simon Løffler

In the fall of 2020, we did a short interview with Simon Løffler. Here he speaks about his mechanical instrument concepts, about playing music like an animal, and about starting from the very beginning.

“Lately, I have tried to play music like an animal. This means that I am trying to shed the skin that is the human, Western-musical skin, where you play an instrument, that has been constructed in advance, and you do so in the most pragmatic way possible. A Western instrument is usually something that you have here at the tips of the fingers, and I am trying instead to embody a sort of instrumental presence on stage.” - Simon Løffler.

The video was recorded during KLANG festival 2020 and includes excerpts from the premiere of Simon Løffler's Animalia III by Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen, and H performed by Simon Løffler, Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen, Matias Escudero Seibæk and Irene Bianco.
