Jexper Holmen and Simon Steen-Andersen on a roll

Young danish composers are experiencing a veritable European hype. Jexper Holmen and Simon Steen-Andersen are two of those figures who show up more and more often internationally and with a still more spectacular regard. In November they both enter the British Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

In the UK the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival - shortened hcmf// - stands as the barometer for leading tendencies in the new music field. This year in November we will here find a huge danish feature with focus on among others Jexper Holmen and Simon Steen-Andersen.

London Sinfonietta Chamber Players will premiere a new work for clarinet, viola, violin, cello and electronics by Jexper Holmen (Saturday, November 19). The Norwegian Ensemble Asamisimasa presents On and Off (Saturday, November 26), a portrait concert of Simon Steen-Andersen, a former pupil of Bent Sørensen. Steen-Andersen combines wit and imagination with well-crafted ideas and an awareness of the visual element of music.

hcmf// is the UK’s foremost festival of new music. The Festival was established in 1978 and occupies a unique position locally, regionally and nationally; it is held over 10 days in November each year and features 50+ events, including concerts, installations, talks, exhibitions, master classes, workshops, drop-in and durational events. The 2010 Festival featured 80+ world, European and UK premieres.
