The Danish Arts Agency has just announced that they have made an agreement with Århus Sinfonietta making composer Li-Ying Wu their composer-in-residence in the period January 2012 to December 2013.
Li-Ying Wu will collaborate with Århus Sinfonietta on three new works: a doubble concert for Sheng (traditional Chinese wind instrument) and accordion, a song cycle for mezzo soprano and sinfonietta, and a chamber music work with electronics.
Århus Sinfonietta hopes to expand the ensemble's international network with foreign soloists and conductors through the collaboration.
Li-Ying Wu was born in 1978 in Taipei, Taiwan, where she studied piano, cello and composition, until she moved to Copenhagen in 2003. Here she studied composition and debuted as a composer from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2010. She is now in the middle of getting further educated in electronic composition at DIEM, Danish Institute of Electronic Music in Aarhus.
The Danish Arts Agency's Composer-in-Residence arrangement makes it possible for orcestras, ensembles and other types of hosts to invite a composer or sound artist to develop and present new musical ideas. The committee has collaboration agreements with Danish composers and a variety of Danish ensembles and orcestras as well as municipalities, festivals and other concert making institutions.
