Based in Copenhagen, the Italian-born Lorenzo Colombo has established himself as a dedicated interpreter of contemporary music, renowned for his technical mastery, compelling stage presence and exploratory approach to sound and performance. Highly acclaimed both in Denmark and internationally, he has performed with some of Europe’s leading contemporary music ensembles.
For his solo concert at Louisiana, he presents works by Mads Emil Dreyer and Adrianna Kubica-Cypek – two of the most refined composers on Denmark’s contemporary music scene today. In their own distinctive ways, both explore how even the smallest musical details can open up a wealth of sensory, sonic and structural possibilities.
Mads Emil Dreyer’s music often unfolds through a dialogue between acoustic instruments and electronics. Using calm repetitions and gradual transformations of simple musical motifs, he creates sound worlds characterised by light and beauty. The electronics may imitate and subtly shift the sounds of the instruments, or overlay them with a hazy, almost otherworldly layer, blurring the boundaries between the acoustic and the electronic. Dreyer has composed works for a wide range of acclaimed ensembles and orchestras, including JACK Quartet, Yarn/Wire, and Ensemble Recherche.
Adrianna Kubica-Cypek’s music grows out of a particular openness to impressions from her surroundings. She often begins with minimal material – a single sensation or a small sonic detail – which gradually unfolds and transforms through repetition and subtle shifts. Her music balances delicate, restrained calm with insistent intensity, allowing the sounds and movements of the instruments to become part of a sensory and physical expression. Her works have been performed by, among others, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Vocal Ensemble and Capella Amsterdam, and have been featured at numerous international festivals.
In the intimate setting of Bådehuset, audiences are invited to experience the composers’ music up close through Lorenzo Colombo’s virtuosic and deeply engaging interpretations. After the concert, guests are invited to enjoy a glass of wine, followed by a conversation with the composers, offering a unique insight into the works and the artistic processes behind them.
