Today is our official release of Matthias Ronnefeld's complete series!
For quite some time now, Edition·S – music¬sound¬art has worked on finalising all of Matthias Ronnefeld's works and they are now released as a complete series in a new, sleek black design.
Ronnefeld tragically died in 1986 at the age of 27 after a life-long struggle with diabetes. He was one of the most gifted composers of his generation and aroused attention at an early age with an unusual talent of amazing artistic maturity with a craftsmanship that easily gave voice to his youthful, undogmatically radical nature. He started composing music when he was 6-7 years old with his first major work at the age of 12, Christmas Cantata, which was performed at his school.
Matthias Ronnefeld's catalogue is not long. It comprises 12 opus-numbered works, of which opus 11 is an unfinished orchestral work commissioned by Norddeutscher Rundfunk, and his swansong, the unnumbered piano work Veni, Creator Spiritus of 1986. Most of the pieces were related to his work in and with the ensemble Moments Musicaux.
Sven Erik Werner wrote about Ronnefeld's music in 1998:
"There are many compositional subtleties in Ronnefeld's music, but they are never ends in themselves. Wistfulness, longing, grotesque humour and thrilling sensuality are the strongest enzymes in the tragically brief life's work of this passionate intellect."
"Matthias Ronnefeld - the complete series" is a celebration of Ronnefeld's life and musical talent.
