Yesterday December 12, 2012 it was announced that Niels Rønsholdt’s Me Quitte was granted 50,000 DKkr. from the Danish Arts Foundation.
The Danish Arts Foundation writes about the work:
“In Me Quitte Rønsholdt turns Jaques Brel’s famous love song Ne Me Quitte Pas inside out in every way. When Brel’s song begs his loved one to stay, Rønsholdt’s songs command the opposite – leave me!
In a string of simply formed, but tightly composed songs Brel’s text is sung backwards, so it doesn’t form a substantial meaning, but in some way it still appears vulnerable to describe the longing, sorrow and missed in the unrequited love. The subtle balance between the intimate and the private, the sentimental and the sensitive as well as the simple and the trivial, Rønsholdt bravely comes to grips with love with a capital L.”
Congratulations to Niels Rønsholdt!
The Danish ensemble SCENATET will perform Me Quitte all around Europe throughout the year 2013. Stay tuned for dates and locations.
