Mette Nielsen World Premiere: Retninger

On Wednesday 27 November, a new work by Mette Nielsen is premiered by Filharmonik Fyn.

Filharmonik Fyn is a unique musical community that brings together people of different musical backgrounds across generations in one large symphony orchestra. Anyone from the age of 8 and up can join, whether they are beginners on their instrument or experienced amateur musicians.

The work for Filharmonik Fyn was commissioned alongside Mette Nielsen's work for Odense Symphony Orchestra, Bevægelser (Movements), which premiered in 2023. Mette Nielsen tells about the connections between the two orchestral works:

"I have taken the same core idea and interpreted it for two different types of orchestras. The work for Odense Symphony Orchestra was Movements, while the work for Filharmonik Fyn is Directions. There are three movements, three directions: Upward, from the lowest to the highest instruments; Through the various sections of the orchestra; and Around, from instrument to instrument like a canon that continually condenses. The piece is specifically written for a children’s and amateur orchestra, thus intended for a different sound than the orchestra that Movements was written for."

Mette Nielsen's Retninger (Directions) is premiered Wednesday 27 November at Odeon in Odense.
