"In Århus Sinfonietta we believe in music that understands its own past and develops its future. Throughout the 28 year long history of the ensemble it has always come natural to us to commission new works that challenge our traditions and conventions," says the artistic leader of Århus Sinfonietta, Allan Gravgaard Madsen.
"We always seek to give the audience something to think about, be touched or fascinated by. This Christmas concert is no exception and all works on the programme contribute to a wider understanding of what Christmas music can be."
Included in the concert programme is the world premiere of Line Tjørnhøj's 'Wildes Tiers' in which she looks ahead to the birch trees in summer and away from the darkness of winter. Line Tjørnhøj tells about the piece: "To me December is a time where you look ahead. The light is coming. The light from the long light summer nights. That is what my piece is about."
Besides from Line Tjørnhøj's 'Wildes Tier' the concert programme consists of a world premiere of a new piece by Birgitte Alsted, 'Die himmlischen Heerscharen' by Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen and 'Water Like a Stone' by Juliana Hodkinson. All works in the concert are weaved together by Christmas intermezzi composed by Allan Gravgaard Madsen.
