Katja brings a rich blend of academic expertise and hands-on experience in the contemporary music world. She is currently completing a PhD in musicology at Lund University, with a dissertation focusing on women in electronic music in the early 1950s. In parallel with her academic work, she has been actively involved in the European contemporary music scene—as a music journalist, as well as a project and production manager.
Her professional track record includes leading large-scale international projects, particularly within the German new music scene. Among her notable roles, she served as project manager for Defragmentation—an initiative supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation in collaboration with several leading European festivals—followed by Donaueschingen Global, which brought together artists from 46 countries as part of Donaueschinger Musiktage’s 100th anniversary.
Katja’s strong background working within the field of contemporary classical music and facilitating artistic collaborations is driven by a passion for connecting people, ideas, and musical visions. Her international perspective and thoughtful approach to artistic communication align perfectly with our commitment to supporting and promoting bold, engaging music.
Katja Heldt will take up the position on 1 September 2025, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming her to the team.
