Gold has always been the subject of dreams, fascination and anxiety – and now it is also the subject as well as the actual instrument of Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard’s most recent work.

‘Music for Krügerrand – quartet for gold bullion coins’ is performed on valuable investment coins. The tone ringing from a gold coin reveals its value – it is by hitting a coin and letting it ring, you decide if it is a fake or if the gold is mixed with copper or nickel.

In two movements Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard explores the sonic and psychological potential of gold. He is joined on stage by two percussionists, Jaleh Negari and Ying-Hsueh Chen and by the businessman Lars Seier Christensen.
