Paul Hillier is honoured for his lifelong tireless and passionate work as an internationally recognized specialist in vocal music.
Paul Hillier has left his mark on vocal music in Denmark through his work as conductor and artistic director for the vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices and, until quite recently, also for the vocal ensemble Ars Nova.
He is known for outstanding programming and for consistently commissioning new works from contemporary composers. He has been at the helm of close to 200 recordings of vocal music and has won countless international awards. Paul Hillier has, among other things, received an 'Order of the British Empire' for his contribution to choral music and is also awarded the 'Order of the Dannebrog'.
The award committee states that "the honorary grant is awarded with a warm wish that Paul Hillier, with his intense presence in music, will continue to enrich us with concerts, writings and publications at the highest artistic level, bringing inspiration and joy to many."
Besides from Paul Hillier, the award is given to Peter Navarro-Alonso, Marie Koldkjær Højlund, Thomas Søndergård and Lasse Mauritzen.
The award ceremony will take place on 12 October with a festive concert in DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. Find more information here.
