Two reviews of the newly published album of Nancy Dalbergs String Quartets and a book on her life and works

Nordic String Quartet at the cd- and book release of Nancy Dalberg's String Quartets / Ditte Bomholt

September 17 2019, Edition·S, Dacapo Records, and book publisher Forlaget Multivers, hosted a reception in celebration of the cd-release of Nancy Dalberg’s string quartets and a book release of Nancy Dalberg and composer Hilda Sehested’s life and works.

It was a successful evening celebrating female composers in a packed hall in the Royal Danish Academy of Music as Jens Cornelius interviewed the author, Lisbeth Ahlgren and Nordic String Quartet played excerpts of their new album.

Review Kristeligt Dagblad September 30 2019

In a review in the Danish newspaper, Kristeligt Dagblad, the cd of Nancy Dalberg’s string quartets is shed a light upon in relation Carl Nielsen, as her works are viewed as “…works with a scent of Carl Nielsen but definitely also has its own ring to it.”

Listening to the three string quartets is according to the reviewer “… an experience with an almost sad glow - not only in the two string quartets - to listen to this disregarded Danish composer.”

Review Politiken, Henrik Friis Oktober 1 2019

Danish newspaper Politiken has published a combined review of cd and book. Focusing on Nancy Dalberg’s works, Edition·S have picked out a couple of mentions.

“As for Dalberg, the limited distribution of her works could be an expression for discrimination, because her music is really interesting: The new album with the string quartets is filled with vitamins, drama, and euphony - and is not something, one is finished with at first hand.”

“The first string quartet is fresh and classic, while the second is wild and dramatic with small motives, tiding up the progress at large. The third is experimental and aggressive - and all three should reach a lot of concert programmes in the near future in Denmark as well as internationally".

Lastly, her relationship to her teacher Carl Nielsen does not go by unmentioned, as she helped him with one of his famous work Fynsk Forår when he was too busy himself.
