Rohloff composer in residence at Katrina Chamber Music Festival

Steingrímur Rohloff is composer in residence at the Katrina Chamber Music Festival in Åland/Finland in August.

The Katrina Chamber Music Festival takes place 5-10 August, and the programme features five works by Steingrímur Rohloff including a world premiere performance of the new work String Quartet No. 2.

String Quartet No. 2 is commissioned by the Katrina Festival and the Kaustinen Chamber Music Week, and will be premiered by the Ziliacus Quartet. The newly formed quartet unites some of Sweden's most prominent string players, Cecilia Zilliacus, who is festival director of the Katrina Festival, Julia-Maria Kretz (concert-master in the Swedish Radio Orchestra), Ylvali Zilliacus and Kati Raitinen.

Another highlight will be a performance of Rohloff's quartet Die vier Himmelsrichtungen by the Danish Messiaen Quartet Copenhagen, for whom the work was written. The work represented Denmark at the International Rostrum of Composers in 2021 and has been played at many international radio stations since then.
