Simon Steen-Andersen can undoubtedly be considered one of the most innovative and adventurous composers of his generation. His music has been performed all over the world and his work list is endless. This time his newest work has its world premiere in Darmstadt, Germany.
Simon Steen-Andersen has been associated with the Darmstadt Summer Course since winning the Kranichstein Music Prize in 2008, and with Suppressed Crush (Black Box Music) he presents his newest piece for the percussionist Håkon Stene and the Oslo Sinfonietta under its Principal Conductor, Christian Eggen. With the Oslo Sinfonietta, Steen-Andersen has an ensemble at his disposal that is open for far-reaching experimentation: for this new piece, Steen-Andersen has conceived of spatially distributed ensemble groups with a percussionist wreaking minimalistic havoc in a "Black Box."
The piece will be performed Monday July 23, 2012 at 10 pm and 11 pm at Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt (IMD) during the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt.
The piece will also open the Ultima Festival in Oslo, Norway September 6, 2012.
