SPOT FLUX: New orchestral music at SPOT 2024

SPOT Festival and Danish Composers' Society join forces and will launch the new concept SPOT FLUX - a platform for contemporary orchestral music - at this year's SPOT Festival 3-4 May 2024.

SPOT festival and Danish Composers' Society have joined forces and will launch the new concept SPOT FLUX - a platform for contemporary orchestral music - at this year's SPOT Festival.

SPOT Festival states: "Contemporary composers are creating a diverse catalogue of orchestral music that unfolds effortlessly and is liberated from traditions and genres. With the SPOT FLUX project, SPOT Festival and the Danish Composers’ Association introduce a new platform showcasing a broad palette of contemporary orchestral works.

Today’s composers are ambitious contemporary artists. They craft relevant orchestral pieces in harmony with technology, both sonically and visually; orchestral works that integrate performance, opera, installation, and dance; and exploratory, experimental orchestral works.

SPOT FLUX is a powerful new narrative about contemporary orchestral composers. They win prestigious international awards, receive significant recognition, and create works that reflect our time, drawing the future orchestral audience into symphonic halls. Gunnar Madsen from SPOT Festival states: “It is an outstanding untold story that we are now focusing on.”

With SPOT FLUX, a platform is created to ensure that these significant works of art come to life and are experienced by more people, both in Denmark and internationally. Strong collaborative relationships are necessary for the future of orchestral music. A symphonic work has a long journey from idea to reality. SPOT FLUX focuses on the strong and essential collaborative relationships between composer, orchestra, conductor, and producer. SPOT FLUX invites these stakeholders to present their works, visions, and tools in the concert hall, providing a current insight into the concert experience that awaits the audience."

At SPOT FLUX in 2024, you can meet Athelas Sinfonietta, Damkapellet, Aarhus Kammerorkester and Århus Sinfonietta presenting music by prominent composers such as Bára Gísladóttir, Matias Vestergård, Mette Nielsen, Li-Ying Wu and Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen.
