Steingrímur Rohloff at Kaustinen Chamber Music Week

Three chamber music works by Rohloff will be performed at the Chamber Music Week in Kaustinen, Finland 25-26 January.

The Finnish Kamus Quartet will premiere Rohloff's new String Quartet No. 2. on 25 January. The work is a co-commission by the Kaustinen Chamber Music Week and the Katrina Chamber Music Festival in Åland, where the work and other pieces by Rohloff will also be performed in the summer of 2024.

On 26 January at the Kaustinen Chamber Music Week, the guitarist Petri Kumela will perform the guitar solo piece “Positive” (2021) written for the Slovenian guitarist Klara Tomljanovic. He also interprets two of Rohloff's guitar etudes named “Cocoons” from 1997. These were premiered 27 years ago in the Round Tower in Copenhagen by the Danish guitarist Bjarne Kristensen (1967-2006), who commissioned these etudes.

The Kaustinen Chamber Music Week was established in the 1970's by composer Pehr Henrik Nordgren (1944-2008). The concerts span from early Baroque to contemporary music and include folk music as well as children’s concerts. Over the years, many contemporary composers have visited the Chamber Music Week, and more than 70 compositions have been premiered at Kaustinen.
