Steingrimur Rohloff has, in collaboration with the Esbjerg Ensemble, created the opera Lysistrate, to be put on by Fynen’s opera. It is a dark version of the ancient comedy written by Aristophanes (c. 450–380 BC). In Lysistrate the heroine attemps to stop war by convincing all women to refuse the men love and sex. In this modern version of the story her project is fraught from the start, and seems doomed. The texts for the opera, written by one of Denmark’s great lyricists Peter Laugesen, are actual and intense. The opera will be premiered 14 April by Opera Funen.
