The Carl Prize

In April the Danish music scene gets a new prize ceremony and three Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composers are amongst the nominees.

The Carl Prize is named after the great composer Carl Nielsen – not to confuse with the Carl Nielsen Prize – and founded by Danish Music Publishers' Association. The prize will be given out to a number of Danish songwriters and composers divided into eleven categories:

Composer of pop/rock

Lyricist

International Breakthrough

Song

Composer of jazz/folk/world

Composer of Children’s music

Breakthrough/Talent prize (sponsored by Tuborg Foundation)

Classical Composer – large ensemble/opera

Classical Composer – chamber ensemble/smaller ensemble/solo works

Most played song

Honorary Prize

For the categories “Classical Composer – large ensemble/opera” and “Classical Composer – chamber orchestra/smaller ensemble/solo works” Simon Steen-Andersen is nominated for Black Box Music, Rune Glerup for Examples of Dust and Niels Rønsholdt for Me Quitte. The entire list of nominees will be published on Tuesday April 2, 2013.

The prize ceremony takes place Friday April 19, 2013 at 1 pm at Mogens Dahl’s Concert Hall in Copenhagen where lead singer of Magtens Korridor Johan Olsen and conductor and composer Michael Bojesen are hosts.
