The memoirs of Sven Erik Werner

Upon reading any short biography of a figure with such a rich and diverse cultural life as Sven Erik Werner, we might be quick to ponder how fascinating a book of memoirs might be.

As luck would have it the composer, who came rather late to the art and has held numerous senior positions in the musical life of Denmark as well being a broadcaster with the Danish Radio, Eigil Holms Forlag has just published such a thing. ‘Langsomt, men usikkert’ (‘Slowly, but uncertain’) begins with Werner’s upbringing in a chaotic family, through his beginnings in music and the composers who shaped him, up to stories of his later life as composer, administrator, and broadcaster. At times moving and at others undoubtedly humorous this collection of stories offers a glimpse into the career of one of Denmark's most unique and fascinating cultural figures.
