The Times Writes About Danish Music

On Friday March 8, 2013 the British newspaper The Times published an article about Danish music featuring two Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composers.

The artist duo Klejs & Rønsholdt and Berlin-based Simon Steen-Andersen were interviewed by The Times two weeks ago in the context of the concert New From the North at Barbican in London. The result was a very kind article about the Danish music scene – and some very kind words about Edition·S:

Journalist Igor Toronyi-Lalic wrote:
“That Denmark is home to one of the world’s most innovative publishing houses, Edition S, which specialises in work by composers whose demands go beyond the traditional five-stave score, is also vital.”

The article focuses on the fact that the Danish music scene is playful because of our free educational systems:
“We are a playful people,” Rønsholdt admits. But it goes further than that. “The Scandinavian educational systems, including the music academies, are free,” Steen-Andersen says. “In comparison to many other places in Europe they’re focused on individuality, rather than craftsmanship and historic luggage.”

It also mentions Klejs & Rønsholdt’s app-opera Breathless Moment as an example of ”the boldest Danish musical initiative”.
