Two Steingrimur Rohloff Premieres

The Icelandic-born composer Steingrimur Rohloff has two major works premiering soon. Both works are composed for sinfonietta and performed by prestigious ensembles.

The first one is called Phantasmagoria and is a piano concert, which is premiered in Iceland during the Dark Music Days, which runs from January 31 to February 3, 2013. The annual contemporary music festival is becoming an increasingly popular music event. Last year it attracted around 3000 people, and more are expected this year. The festival is held by the Iceland Composer Society in collaboration with most of Iceland’s finest performers. Rohloff’s Phantasmagoria is composed for Reykjavik’s Chamber Orchestra and soloist Tinna Thorsteinndottír and will be performed Sunday February 3 at 8 pm at Northern Lights, HARPA.

The other work is called Colonies and was commissioned by Ensemble Modern Akademie for their 10 years anniversary and the national German radio Deutschlandfunk. The work will be premiered Saturday April 20 at 8 pm at DLF-forum neuer Musik. Stay tuned for more info.
