Doppelgänger Concerto for Odense Symphony Orchestra
Steingrímur Rohloff is currently writing a double concerto for the two great viola players, Lawrence Powers and Rafaell Altino. Lawrence Powers performs regularly with orchestras like Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He is dedicated to contemporary music and has commissioned works by composers such as Olga Neuwirth and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Rafaell Altino is a soloist in Odense Symphony Orchestra and has initiated this commission. He has commissioned works by many Danish and international composers and is a great asset to the Danish contemporary music scene.
Steingrímur Rohloff works with the unusual case of writing a concerto for two soloists on the same instruments by placing them in different parts of the concert hall, 'throwing' musical ideas at each other. They repeat and shadow each other and turn into musical doppelgängers.
The double concerto is premiered in November 2022, conducted by Eva Ollikainens.
Performances in Konzerthaus Berlin and Ultraschall Berlin.
In February 2022, the ensemble Berlin PianoPercussion will perform Rohloff's piece Repercussion in Werner Otto Saal in Konzerthaus Berlin. Furthermore, Rohloff is writing a new piece for Ensemble LUX NM, commissioned by Siemens Stiftung. The piece will be premiered at the festival Ultraschall in Berlin in 2022.
