Visions of Sounds: Simon Steen-Andersen

He does not need an introduction and still we are more than happy to present him as one of the most experimenting, rigorous composers at the present time. We are of cause talking about the Danish composer Simon Steen-Andersen.

For more than a decade the art music scene has followed his steps with great interest. Simon is a traveller of extremes and is walking towards a busy autumn. From Cologne to Santiago de Compostela and from Paris to Huddersfield he will cross most of Europe’s borders.

Crossing borders is something very characteristic for Simon’s work. He is in a constant flux towards de/construction of all rules of music and sound. By strengthen and magnifying quiet sounds he focus on minimizing the space between the instrument and the listener. Through this Simon creates a spatial, sonorous room that embrace the audience not only sound wise, but also visually. The visuals are not seen as an extra dimension it is considered as a musical parameter.

He represents a philosophy that combines music, sound and art. His performances are a method of eliminating the boundaries between what the eyes see and the ears hear.
